Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands MSP, is one of many MSPs from all parties who are this year writing letters to British troops serving in Afghanistan over Christmas. The initiative is being co-ordinated by the Support our Soldiers (SOS) charity.
Jamie handed over his letter to representatives of the charity at an event today in the Scottish Parliament.
Jamie McGrigor MSP met today at the Scottish Parliament with representatives of the charity Support Our Soldiers (SOS)
Speaking today, Jamie said:
“I was delighted to be asked to write a ‘bluey’ letter for our troops serving in Afghanistan. I know how much receiving letters from members of the public and elected representatives and others means to our serving soldiers.
“I understand that the army postie will deliver the letters on Christmas Day to soldiers on the front line, especially those who don’t receive a lot of mail, most probably those young Scottish single soldiers in the forward outpost around Camp Bastion, who will on Christmas Day be surrounded by sandbags and looking towards the horizon for signs of Taliban activity.
“I pay tribute to all those in the armed forces serving in Afghanistan for the vitally important work they are doing. And I commend the SOS charity for the excellent work they do in supporting our armed forces personnel”.
