Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP and the Convenor of the Scottish Parliament’s Cross Party Group on Crofting, has urged crofting and farming constituents across his region to have their say on the Scottish Crofting Federation’s petition to the Parliament’s Public Petitions Committee on the issue of damage caused to crops by increasing wild geese numbers. Support can be added to the petition until this Sunday (1st September).
Speaking yesterday, Jamie said:
“Crofters right across the Highlands and Islands, from Argyll to Shetland, are very concerned about the impact rising wild geese numbers are having on their crops and ability to make a living. This issue has been raised repeatedly at our Cross Party Group on Crofting and in the debating chamber by MSPs representing the Highlands & Islands, including myself.
“I commend the Scottish Crofting Federation for lodging this petition which will increase pressure on the Scottish Government to look again at its policies in this area and assess what new measures might be introduced.
“I would encourage those who have direct experience of the damage that can be caused by wild geese to have their say through the petition before it closes on Sunday.”
