Donald Cameron MSP

Commenting on reports that it may take ten years to deliver a permanent solution to repeated closures of the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful, Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron said:

“A fit-for-purpose road is essential if we are to attract investment and new jobs for people in Argyll and Bute, and that means a permanent solution to the repeated closures of the A83.

“The failure of the SNP Government to achieve that after 14 years in office is an indictment of their neglect of our area.

“To wait until 2030 for a solution is quite simply inexcusable.”

Councillor Alastair Redman (Kintyre and the Islands Ward), Policy Lead for Business, Regeneration and Commercial Development for Argyll and Bute Council, added:

“SNP politicians are full of complaints about having to wait “once in a generation” for another independence referendum but are apparently happy enough to make the people of Argyll and Bute wait a generation before they sort out our road.

“It is completely unacceptable for us to be neglected in this way and it’s not as if they don’t have the resources to deal with this issue as we can see from their spending pledges elsewhere.”
