Scotland is plagued by a surplus of elections! Community councils, local Councils, Scottish Parliament, UK Parliament and, for the time being, European Parliament. Can any other country be so over-burdened by repeated treks to polling stations, I wonder. Having said that, we ought not to take the privilege of democracy too lightly.
We now have three local Conservative Parliamentarians. The MSP whose work most closely relates to Argyll and Bute is Donald Cameron, and he is keen to tackle issues of local concern.
On the wider front, Donald is Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, and is already making his mark on health issues across Scotland. Here in Argyll and Bute he has visited Dunoon’s Community Hospital and has scheduled a visit to the Cowal Hospice.
The next tranche of elections takes place in May of next year, when voters go to the polls to elect local Councillors for wards throughout Argyll and Bute, and I am delighted to say the Tories will contest every seat.
Our campaign team is already in full swing and will welcome whatever help our members and supporters can give.
In the meantime, the new session of lunch club meetings is about to get under way across the constituency, and a warm welcome awaits any new members. For full details please contact Pauline Houston at the constituency office on 01546 603811.
