Islay and Jura Community Enterprises Limited have received a financial boost, following the announcement of the latest round of payments from the Libor fund by the UK Government.
The body received £17,167 from the fund and will use the funding to support veterans and retired emergency services personnel on Islay.
The fund was created following the Libor scandal, with the proceeds from LIBOR fines being used to support Armed Forces and Emergency Services charities and other related good causes.
The announcement was welcomed by local MSP Donald Cameron and Councillor Alastair Redman, who represents the local community on Argyll and Bute Council.
Donald Cameron MSP said:
“This is a tremendous boost for this great local organisation and welcome support for our veterans across Islay.
The UK Government’s Libor fund has helped to support many groups across Scotland since it was set up and I am delighted that over £3m has been awarded to groups across the country.”
Councillor Alastair Redman said:
“This is an excellent announcement and I know how much this funding will mean to Islay and Jura Community Enterprises and also to our local ex-servicemen who will directly benefit from this announcement.
It is really exciting to see such worthwhile causes such as this benefiting from the Libor fund and I look forward to working closely with this group and others across my ward to ensure they gain access to any funding programmes which benefit their work”.
