I was delighted to attend the February 5th commemoration at the American Monument on the Oa Peninsula of Islay which marks 100 years since one of the most dramatic moments of World War One when the S.S. Tuscania was torpedoed by a German U-boat with more than 2,100 Americans, and 300 British crew, aboard.
It is so important that we never forget the sacrifice of these young men who died so that we may continue to enjoy the freedoms we so often take for granted.
