Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, today responded to news that construction work has begun on the first whisky distillery on the Isle of Harris.
Jamie said:
“This is tremendous news for the island of Harris, and it will be another focal point of interest for tourism and could provide twenty local jobs, which means a great deal in a rural community.
“I remember when Burr Bakewell, the founder and chairman of Isle of Harris Distillers Ltd, came to see me in Parliament with the idea several years ago and I agreed to become a friend of the projected distillery.
“It is wonderful when an inspirational idea of this magnitude comes to fruition instead of languishing on the shelf. I congratulate Burr Bakewell for his entrepreneurial role in this project, and look forward to tasting my first Hearach as soon as it is ready.
"Slainte to this exciting project”.
