Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, has welcomed today’s UK budget.Commenting today Jamie said:“ This is a strong and positive budget which continues with the vitally important work of restoring the UK’s public finances and supporting hard-working families.“ The freeze in fuel duty will be welcomed across the Highlands & Islands and the rise in the income tax personal allowance to £11,000 next year will be a boost to incomes, as will measures on the living wage.“ Cutting corporation tax in the UK to 18% by 2020 will help ensure the UK is one of the most competitive places in the whole world to do business.“ Under this Conservative government, despite challenging economic conditions internationally, we have a growing economy and can look forward to the public finances being returned to a budget surplus in 2019/20.”
