Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, has given his reaction to the news today that a new distillery is to be built on Skye. The Torabhaig Distillery will be only the second on the island, and an investment of more than £5 million is expected to see eight jobs created.
Commenting on the news, Jamie said:
“This is very exciting news. Traditional whisky distilling is unique to Scotland, and it is good to see expansion, especially in the Highlands & Islands and Skye in particular, where the eight jobs projected will be highly significant as this can help eight families.
I am sure that the late Sir Iain Noble, who did so much for industry on Skye and the Gaelic culture, would be thrilled with this new development, which will be another focal point for one of Scotland’s national products and a welcome addition to the tourism industry. I wish it good health in every aspect and congratulate all those involved in the project”.
