Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands MSP, has highlighted the work of the Highland Disabled Ramblers charity.
Jamie was speaking yesterday at a session of the Rural Affairs, Environment & Climate Change Committee in the Scottish Parliament.
Jamie raised the charity’s work with the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead MSP, when the Committee was taking evidence from him on disability issues in rural areas. The charity helps disabled people in the Highlands to enjoy the countryside using a fleet of electric scooters.
Jamie described the charity as “...a very good model, which could be followed in other parts of Scotland.”
Speaking afterwards, Jamie, who declared an interest as the charity's Honorary President, said:
“I was very pleased to highlight with the Cabinet Secretary the fantastic work done by Highland Disabled Ramblers.
“Having accompanied the group on some of their rambles before, I know how much enjoyment the less able-bodied can gain from these outings in the countryside. It is a great social activity for some of my disabled constituents.
“I commend all those who are involved in this excellent Highlands charity and believe it is a model that could be copied elsewhere in Scotland”.
