Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, today praised the Dalmally-based international aid charity Mary’s Meals. Mary’s Meals began by feeding just 200 youngsters in Malawi in 2002; recently it announced it is now providing 1,035,637 children with a nutritious meal every day they attend school.Jamie was speaking at External Affairs Question Time in the Scottish Parliament where he questioned the Scottish Government on support for voluntary sector organisations in developing countries. Responding to Jamie, the Minister International Development Humza Yousaf commended Mary’s Meals success as “phenomenal.”Speaking today Jamie said:“ I congratulate Mary’s Meals- headquartered in Dalmally in my region and led by my inspirational constituent Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow- on its recent announcement that it is now providing more than one million children in some of the world's poorest countries with a meal every day they attend school. This is a massive achievement. “ Mary’s Meals is a world-class example of the impact the voluntary sector can have in developing countries and I hope other national and international voluntary organisations learn from this best practice.”
