Jamie McGrigor, Highlands & Islands Conservative MSP, today met with the European Union Commissioner for Regional Policy, Mr Johannes Hahn, during the Commissioner’s visit to the Scottish Parliament.
Jamie questioned Commissioner Hahn on the implications for Scotland of integrating structural funds with rural development and fisheries funds programmes, emphasising the importance of the rural and fishing sectors to the economy of the Highlands & Islands.
Commenting afterwards, Jamie said:
“I was pleased to be able to meet with Commissioner Hahn today and emphasise to him the vital importance of the funding that comes from the EU in the farming, crofting and fishing sectors which are key primary industries for the Highlands & Islands region.
“The Commissioner asked me to write to him with some further details and I shall certainly be doing this and will be asking him for an update on the integration of funding streams and for assurances that remote and rural regions like the Highlands & Islands will not be disadvantaged”.
