Conservatives urge swift response to Town Centre Regeneration Fund criteria

Scottish Conservatives have welcomed the Scottish Government's publication
of further details concerning the £60million Town Centre Regeneration Fund
and have urged local communities to start preparing their bids as soon as
possible, so they can move quickly when the full criteria becomes available.

Annabel Goldie, Scottish Conservative & Unionist Party Leader, said:

"Scottish Conservatives are proud of the role we played in extracting this
fund as a major concession in the recent budget. We launched
www.helpourhighstreet.com to enable communities the length and breadth of
Scotland to have their say and make the case for their local town centre.

"We had responses from 98 towns up and down Scotland, from Kirkwall to
Wigtown, from Coldstream to Campbeltown, all of which we passed on to the
Scottish Government. I am delighted that the information released today
makes clear that a wide range of bodies will be eligible to apply and not
just local authorities.

Gary Mulvaney Parliamentary Candidate for Argyll & Bute, who has nominated
all six town in Argyll said

"There is no doubt town centre's all across Argyll & Bute are struggling,
even more so under Labour's recession. They are the lifeblood of their
communities. It is a pity that all the criteria are not yet published but
more information is expected by the end
of April and I would urge local community groups to start preparing their
case now
so they can submit bids as soon as possible after the criteria is
announced".
