Faslane News Great Boost for Argyll
PRESS RELEASE
Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Argyll & Bute, Cllr Gary Mulvaney,
has welcomed the news that the nuclear powered Trafalgar Class of submarines
are to be relocated to Faslane from Devonport.
Gary Mulvaney said "With all the doom and gloom of Labour's recession, this
is a great boost for the Argyll economy and especially the Helensburgh area.
Like most places, we have seen our fair share of local shops and pubs close
in recent times, but this influx of possibly 2,000 people including crew,
support staff and their families will be a real boost for our retailers,
bars, restaurants and housebuilders. The MoD's commitment to a single UK
submarine facility, based at Faslane will safeguard the 11,000 jobs that
Faslane already supports and the £200million that it injects into the
economy. Its just the news we need to hear."
Councillor Mulvaney, commenting on the political implications, said "This
news must be a massive blow to the SNP policy of shutting the base, and they
will have to rethink their sums on how the increasing number of jobs lost
by their policy will be replaced. They need to come clean or alternatively
support Faslane."
