Conservatives Back £12.7m Upgrade to Campbeltown Quay
Argyll & Bute Council unanimously agreed £23.6 million gross expenditure for
Argyll's piers and harbour for the next ten years with £18.7 to be spent on
the Campbeltown harbour. The money will help secure the deal to bring Welcon
Towers to the Kintyre peninsula as well ensure Argyll is well placed for
future renewables investment.
Cllr Gary Mulvaney, Conservative Group Leader and Westminster candidate said
"We ought to congratulate the Council Leader and officers for their part in
securing this massive £45million deal for the Kintyre area. This Welcon
Towers deal is not only important for jobs in Campbeltown, it ought to make
a huge impact for the whole of Argyll as the renewables sector grows. There
are many politician that can talk but today as Argyll & Bute councillors we
are putting our money where our mouths are. I am delighted to do this and
play my part in committing £7.6 million of council monies to make this
happen"
During the debate Cllr Mulvaney raised the issue of "future proofing" the
quay improvement at Campbeltown saying "It is vital that we to look ahead,
with the probability of larger towers and larger ships, and I am pleased
that as we develop the business cases we will fully explore these options"
