cabinet reshuffle
Conservatives have attacked the "musical chairs" cabinet reshuffle that will
see the appointment of the fourth Labour Defence Secretary in this
Parliament.
Argyll & Bute, with substantial military bases at Faslane and Coulport,
relies on defence for over 11,000 direct and indirect jobs and over £200
million generated into the local economy.
Speaking after the government reshuffle, Conservative Parliamentary
Candidate, Gary Mulvaney said " Our forces and families need a Conservative
Government, as do businesses which depend on a stable military presence in
their communities. Incredibly, today will see the appointment of the fourth
Labour Defence Secretary in this Parliament. At a time when they are at war
in Afghanistan and engaged in dangerous action elsewhere in the world, what
our forces and their dependents need is stability and leadership. John
Hutton's resignation not only destabilises Gordon Brown, it also
destabilises the running of the armed forces. It is wrong for Labour to put
our armed forces in the front line of Cabinet "musical chairs".
